for School Based Apprentices and Trainees!
The School based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBT/A’s) program can be a vital component in helping you anticipate and prepare for the future by training young people to custom fit your business.
SBT/As gain valuable workplace skills under a structured training plan designed to complement your services.
Students who apply for SBT/As must undertake a quality application process that includes parent support, career profile and industry research. Applicants are interviewed by a panel and if successful must also undertake Job-Ready Workshops that include ‘Employer Expectations’ and ‘Workplace Safety’ awareness. The workshops are delivered by Joblink Midwest’s Workforce Development Centre.
It is also expected that applicants undertake work experience with their proposed host employer prior to commencing the SBT/A. Students do not gain an SBT/A until their prospective host is satisfied that they are dedicated to the chosen SBT/A. A minimum of one month probation period is included.
Support is provided by the School, the Schools Apprenticeship and Traineeship Broker (SATB), the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and a nominated Group Training Organisation (GTO) (if the employer wishes to engage a GTO).
A school based apprentice or trainee can contribute to business growth, staff retention workplace productivity. Your business may also be legible for federal Government training incentives. Training fees are covered by the Department of Training and Workforce Development.
- Provide a safe working environment
- Provide an induction and orientation program
- Provide the opportunity for the student to acquire the skills and knowledge in the vocation or trade in accordance with the negotiated training plan
- Provide employment for a minimum of one day per week
